What are the eligibility requirements for the Wheels for Work Program? * Have an income that is no more than 200% above poverty income guidelines
* Be a custodial parent or a non custodial-parent who pays support
* Be a resident of Broome County or Cortland County
* Have no public transportation available or circumstances that prevent the use of public transportation to get to and from work
* Be working 25 hours or more a week or have a formal written job offer for 25 hours or more a week
* Have a valid driver's license with no outstanding unpaid fines
Is the car mine?Yes you can drive the car BUT the car dealer holds a LIEN on the vehicle for 12 months. Family Enrichment Network holds ta secondary lien.
After 12 months if your loan repayment is completed you will be given the liens and the car will be completely yours.
How much is the loan I have to repay?
Due to the Governor's budget cuts the program has been changed. Now the program will pay a $1,000 down payment on a vehicle with the balance to be repaid by the consumer within 12 months. Repayments are made to the car dealer.
If I pay back the loan in full before the end of the year will I get the lien back ahead of time?No, the NY State program guidelines require that all individuals in Wheels for Work programs participate for 12 months regardless of early repayment of their loan
